Before your appointment

A little preparation helps.

Appointment lengths

Standard or long, and how to tell which one you need.

Appointment lengths

If this is your first visit

  • Book a longer appointment for a first visit. A doctor who has not met you needs your history before anything else.
  • Say what you are coming in for when you book. Reception cannot put you in the right slot without it.

If you have been before

  • Ask for a long appointment if you have more than one thing to raise, need a care plan or a mental health consult, are having a procedure, or need forms or a medical filled in.
  • Two problems in a standard slot is how a running-late morning starts, and the second problem is usually the one that gets rushed.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.

Fees & billing

What to have with you so billing is sorted at the desk, not afterwards.

Fees & billing

If this is your first visit

  • Bring your Medicare card. Without one, a visit is usually billed privately and you claim it back yourself afterwards.
  • Bring any concession, pension or DVA card. They can change what you pay.
  • Ask what a visit will cost when you book rather than at the desk on the way out.

If you have been before

  • Tell reception if your Medicare card, concession card or address has changed. An expired card is the most common reason a bulk-billed visit suddenly is not one.
  • The imaging, pathology and allied-health businesses in the building set their own fees and bill separately from the practice.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.

What to bring

The short list that saves you a second appointment.

What to bring

If this is your first visit

  • Your Medicare card, and any concession, pension or DVA card.
  • A list of everything you take, including anything bought without a prescription. A photo of the boxes does the job.
  • Letters, scans or results from another practice or a specialist.
  • The name of your previous practice, if you would like your records transferred.

If you have been before

  • An up-to-date list of your medicines, if anything has changed since last time.
  • Anything a specialist or a hospital has sent you.
  • Your questions, written down. It is the thing people most often forget once they are in the room.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.

Results, privacy & your records

How results reach you, and who is allowed to see your file.

Results, privacy & your records

If this is your first visit

  • Ask how the practice will contact you about results before you leave. No news is not the same as good news.
  • Your record is confidential. It is not shared with family, an employer or an insurer without your consent.

If you have been before

  • You can ask for a copy of your record, or have it sent to another practice, and you do not have to give a reason.
  • Results are normally discussed in an appointment rather than read out at the desk, because a number on its own rarely means what people expect it to.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.

Repeat scripts & referrals

Why a script or a referral usually still needs an appointment.

Repeat scripts & referrals

If this is your first visit

  • A prescription and a referral are both clinical decisions, so a doctor generally needs to see you rather than sign one at the desk.
  • Bring the details of anything you are already taking, including the dose and how long you have been on it.

If you have been before

  • Ask before the last tablet, not after. Leaving it to the final day turns a routine script into an urgent appointment.
  • Referrals expire. Check the date on yours before you book the specialist, because an out-of-date referral can change what that visit costs you.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.

Telehealth & home visits

When a phone or video consult works, and when you need to be seen.

Telehealth & home visits

If this is your first visit

  • Telehealth generally depends on having an existing relationship with the practice, so a first appointment is normally in person.
  • Anything that needs to be looked at, listened to or felt needs a room. Rashes, injuries, chest pain and unwell children are in-person visits.

If you have been before

  • Phone or video suits results, medication reviews, mental health follow-up and straightforward administrative questions.
  • Home visits depend on the doctor, the day and where you live. Ask rather than assume either way.

This is general guidance, not this practice's policy. Anything about your own visit (what it will cost, how long you need, whether a phone consult will do) is a question for the reception team, and they would far rather answer it than have you guess. Give them a friendly call on (02) 4733 0222.
